Masks are a mark of a culture. For centuries, cultures have created baume mercier replica  masks for many purposes such as telling stories, burials, and a means of fashion expression. Many cultures can be identified by the types of masks worn and created. They are an integral part of many ancient cultures.
Vacheron Constantin evokes the artistic and cultural importance of the mask with a series of watches that feature many types of masks from different groups of people in history. This collection is a very artistic, inspired idea produced by this luxury jewelry company.
About the Collection
This collection, called Les Masques, contains many watches. All a lange sohne replica  of them feature a mask in the face of the watch. These masks are ones seen in a museum in Switzerland. These masks come from many countries, and are sculpted of gold and encased in jewels. Surrounding the art in the center is a poem. The materials used for these watches are very fine. These watches come in white gold, yellow gold, pink gold, and platinum. These collections of watches were released for three years: 2007, 2008, and 2009.
2007 Collection
The 2007 Collection of Les Masques watches features masks from a lange sohne replica  Congo, China, Alaska and Indonesia. The Indonesian shows a mask from the Javanese theatre. The Alaskan watch also has a beautiful face. It is from the Tlingit people, commonly known as the Eskimos. The mask is one that was commonly worn by a Shaman in this Native American culture. The Chinese watch features a death mask from this culture. This mask was used in the ancient Chinese culture for body preparation in tombs, much the way we commonly associate the burial of the Egyptian people. The mask from the Congo is a well-known piece of African tribal art. This mask is actually said to inspire Picasso. All of these watches also contain poems that evoke the same feeling as the mask.
2008 Collection
The 2008 Les Masques Collection by Vacheron Constantin features four different masks, just like the previous collection. This time, we see masks from Japan, Mexico, Papa-New-Guinea, and the Gabon Kwélé people. Mexico is an easy one. Ancient cultures in this country always crafted beautiful masks for different purposes. This particular Mayan mask was actually a sort of portrait of a real person meant as a piece of art. Japan is also an easy one. This classic ancient Japanese ritual mask is one that is commonly seen in various forms of Japanese art and Western art when representing Japanese culture. Papa-New-Guinea is a tribal culture. This mask seems to represent an animal or insect and could be used in a ceremony. The Gabon Kwélé people are an African tribal people. This mask was one of a series for a boy used in ceremonies throughout his life. The poems are again featured around the watch face.
2009 Collection
The 2009 Les Masques Collection by Vacheron Constantin features four areas that have been previously seen, but different masks from the countries: Indonesia, Mexico, China, and Gabon. The second Indonesian watch is from the cultural theatre as well. The Chinese watch features a very unusual mask. This mask is very open and ornamental and was commonly worn by some monks. The watch featuring a Mexican mask is from the Mezcala culture. The second Gabon mask is from a different African culture. These are the Ngontang people. This mask was used in ceremonial dances as a representation of death.
The watches in the Les Masques collection by Vacheron Constantin are not just high quality watches. It is an impressive artistic tribute to the cultural significance of masks for many groups of people throughout ancient history.
